Many people who like to start their online business are always started with affiliate marketing, why? The key reason is affiliate marketing is easy to get started; in fact you can get started immediately and you can earn a good commission just by focusing on selling other people products. Affiliate marketing is definitely the easiest way to start your online business but it may not be true to get successful easily. You need to put a lot of efforts and time to achieve your success and here are the 5 basic steps that are essential to the success of your affiliate marketing.

Step 1: Find the right affiliate programs

There are too many affiliate programs available on the net and you can’t just join every one of them. Spend some time to search for appropriate affiliate programs that meet your niche market. You either can join the individual affiliate program offered directly from the merchant or join the affiliate network like Commission Junction or Linkshare and select your affiliate programs from there. Review their terms & conditions, your selected affiliate programs should a good reputation, have good commission or revenue generating potential and who are good pay master.

Step 2: Don't Join Too Many Affiliate Programs

Each affiliate programs have a minimum earnings requirement before you get your payment. The minimum earnings requirement may be as low as $10 but in average, you may need to earn $50 to receive your first check. So, don’t join too many affiliate programs because you may need to wait longer to receive your first payment. Focus on one or two affiliate programs are the best idea.

Step 3: Choose Only A Few Products to Promote

You may want to maximum your earnings by promoting as many products as you can. Theoretically you are right because the more products you are promoting, the more potential earnings you may generating. But the fact is you may not get success if you are promoting too many products because you will lose your focus and spending out of your marketing budget. The best idea is selecting a few products to focus on and work your way to successfully promoting these products to earn your affiliate commission.

Step 4: Find Your Unique Ways of Promoting

Depending on your marketing budget, you may want to perform pay-per-click advertisement to drive the traffic to the page which your visitors can find the affiliate products you are promoting. Or, you may want to have your own website instead of direct all your traffic to your affiliate product’s page. The good thing of having your own website is you can promote more products at once and maximum the usage of the traffic generated. Although there are many proven marketing strategies, not all will suit your market niche. You should find your own unique ways or select a few marketing techniques that work for your niche market.

Step 5: Build Your Prospect List

If a visitor land on your website and they find the products you are currently promoting are not what they want, they will leave your website without buying any of them. If this is the case, you are wasting your internet traffic, but if you can keep their contact and get back to them once your have other promoting products that may meet their interest, you can re-use your internet traffic. Not many visitors will willingly leave their contact just because you ask for it. But, if you can offer them some freebies such as free e-books, reports or informative newsletter in exchange with their contact details, the visitors will need to leave their contact if they are interested to get these freebies.
