I have been guilty of this. Many people when they start out are excited by the potential of how much they can make in affiliate marketing. By joining all these programs, you can spread your traffic generating efforts too thin and you can lose out on money that you could be earning by promoting just one or two programs.
So, the best way to deal with this is to join one or two programs that have at least a 50% commission and focus generating traffic to those programs. You will have a better result and earn more money this way then you would promoting 5 programs all at the same time.
2. Not buying the product or using the service you are trying to promote.
As an affiliate, your main goal is to not to hard sell the product or service to your potential customers. You can give them an overview on the product, but do not try to sell to them. That is the job of the sales page. You must be able to effectively relay the benefits of the product or service. This will be very difficult to do if you yourself have not tried the product or service you are trying to promote.
What is the best way to combat this? Buy the product or service you are trying to promote. You will have more knowledge about the product and can see if it lives up to any promises that were made in the sales page. If you are writing a review on the item, your customers will feel the sincerity and truthfulness in what you will have to say, which will make the customer more inclined to buy from you.

Most people when starting out want to earn some money as soon as possible. They pick out the hottest product that is in demand at the time without considering if the product even appeals to them.
The best way to avoid this problem is to choose a product you have an interest in. For example, if you like to landscape, find a product that deals with landscaping. When you find products that interest you, it will be able easier to promote, than if you promote a product just for the earnings.
4. Promoting Products to other Internet marketers.
Now, I am not saying that you can not make money promoting products and services to other Internet marketers, you can, the fact is that you can make more money in markets that are not geared towards Internet marketers. The Internet Marketing niche has some of the toughest competition out there and if you could find a market with less competition, that means more sales for you.
The best way to fight this? Find a product or service that is not in the Internet Marketing niche. Using the example I used earlier, if you are promoting a product that teaches you the secrets to landscaping, people who are looking for that type of information will be more likely to buy.
Many affiliates make these mistakes and are not earning as much as they can. By avoiding these mistakes you can earn hundreds if not thousands of dollars of extra income every month.
