Niche Market Research for Your Website
To do this, First we need to pick website topic ideas that you know and are passionate about. Next we will identify profitable topics and make a list of keywords that you will use to name your site and build out your sites content pages.
Use the following steps to get you started with brainstorming.
Step 1:
To begin our niche market research, we are going to discuss the best way to pick the perfect niche. I’m sure by now you know what a niche is. It’s best to start out by choosing the top two areas where you have passion.
This could be any number of things like fishing, cooking, dog training, writing, fixing cars, etc… You are going to become an expert in this particular field in a very short period of time so it helps if you’ve done it for many years or want to know more about the concept. Believe me your excitement will show!
Step 2:
Now that you have couple ideas for a website topic you are passionate about, we need to do a niche keyword research to make sure there is a profitable market for your niche. What are some of the profitable topics or hot buttons you can write about related to your site concept? Each page should focus on a keyword so these profitable topics or “Keywords” will become your content pages.
Step 3:
Now we will take these two topics and head over to Google Keyword Tool to make sure people are actively searching for your topic. Open a window and go to Google keyword tool and we’ll get started.
(I personally use one of my SBI tools to find all my highly profitable topics. I use my Brainstorm It! tool because it has more options and cuts my niche market research time in half, but if you haven’t purchased SBI yet then for now the Google keyword tool will do the trick.)
Type in your keyword. What you are looking for here is whether or not your topic has a valid number of “sub topics” with at least 9,000 searches per month. Find about 10 to 15 specific phrases with search volume greater than 3,000 that you think you could provide information about. Once you have done this niche market research for both your original keywords and saved the information in a word doc, save it to your desk top for easy accessing.
Step 4:
Next we need to make sure there is money to be made with your niche. To do this is really simple, in fact it’s something you probably do every day without noticing your doing it. Head to Google and type in your keywords one at a time in the search box and hit search button.
Just below the search box you will find in small print how many results that term has. It Should look something like this (About 57,700,000 results (0.24 seconds). This is basically your competition should you choose this particular niche. A lot of results usually means there is a big market for the subject.
If there is a lot of competition you should do some soul searching and decide if you have the passion to win in this particular market. If not go back to your keyword tool and do some more niche market research. You may need to niche down further. It is your job to your niche market research and find the perfect marriage between supply and demand.
After you have settled on what niche will works best for you, its time to move on to picking the perfect domain name.
